Recreational Therapists work with patients to restore motor, social, and cognitive functioning.
Increase patients’ self-confidence in symptom management by educating patients on how to utilize positive coping skills.
Educate patients on how to integrate skills learned in treatment setting into a community setting.
Oversee group and meeting activities to ensure they are conducted by qualified and trained staff.
Conduct Recreational Therapy Assessments within 72 hours of admission.
Invite patients to the groups and provide the patients who did not attend group with the group materials.
Ensure that all groups are being documented for each patient daily to ensure attendance and participation level
Initiate the Rec Therapy Treatment Plan at 24 hours for each patient.
Write a Behavioral Car Plan as indicated when a patient will be discharged to the following levels of care) group home, ALF, SNF).
Maintain a current file of resources to refer patients to refer to in the community to assist patients with housing, transportation, government assistance, support groups, etc.
Ability to multi-task, manage time, meet deadlines, and remain calm and professional under pressure.
Maintain standards of confidentiality of Lifeways’ clients and records
Perform all work duties and activities in compliance with Lifeways policies/procedures, Federal & State regulations, OSHA and HIPAA regulations
Qualifications
Required
Bachelor’s Degree in Therapeutic Recreation, Psychology, Social Work, or related field
Or a minimum of 5 years’ experience in psychiatric care
Valid driver’s license
Successful completion of background check
Preferred
Experience in conducting groups and patient assessments
